Accommodation: The Bay of Islands offers all styles of accommodation, and most are situated in either Paihia or Russell, although Kerikeri (20km North) and Opua (4km South) have a few good choices when rooms are getting scarce. Paihia is the primary base for the many tours you can take in this region, and most of the Bay's visitors stay here, though historic Russell is definitely our preferred township to stay. Both townships are small enough to park your car at your Hotel, Motel or B&B and explore the bay on foot and by boat. Accommodation tariffs are at a peak during the busy summer months December to March.
